Thursday’s Management Tip for Graphic Designers

I hate dealing with paperwork. Unfortunately, if I want to be paid, it’s a necessary evil.

When I first started freelancing, I didn’t have an organized system of forms that I kept on hand for immediate retrieval.

So, when a client would ask for a quote, or request an invoice, I had to go and hunt for the necessary forms and paperwork.

You may think to yourself, “Big deal? ” But, you know, over time, the minutes or hours lost adds up if every time you needed it, you had to go and hunt for the necessary form.

Create a system for all your business forms:

You probably have figured out that I’m a big believer in automating your business as much as possible. Especially those tasks that I really hate doing!

A good idea is to make a list of those forms and documents that you use on a regular basis and make sure that you have them handy in one place. Either in a folder in your drawer or in one place on your computer.

Here’s a list of some key documents you may want to keep on hand:

  1. Agreements
  2. Contracts
  3. Creative briefs
  4. Forms
  5. Invoices
  6. Letters
  7. Meeting agendas
  8. Pricing
  9. Privacy statements
  10. Proofs and approvals
  11. Proposals
  12. Terms and conditions

Keeping these on hand will not only save you time, but will help you get back to clients in a flash!
