It’s not about what you can do, but what you do for a client

Thursday’s Management Tip for Graphic Designers

When we are in the services industry, we quickly lose sight of why we are in that industry.

We build all our collateral not based on our client’s needs but on our own personal taste. You have to design your website according to what you think your clients expects from your website. It will be far more effective that way.

Being a thriving designer means that you know that it’s not about what you can do with your software. It’s not about the filters and effects you know. It’s how you put together a piece that is effective for your client.

What to keep in mind

  1. What do your clients want from your website? These can include samples, a biography, how to contact you, a newsletter, blog, …
  2. How can you relate what you do to what they want?
  3. What is your specialty?
  4. How can you make them better than they presently are?

C O N C L U S I O N

Remember, clients can always find someone to do the work for them. Your job is to prove that you are the right choice because you understand what they want and know how to meet their demands and exceed their expectations. Lots of people know the field you are in; it’s not about you or your competence.

It’s not what you can do but what you can do for your client.
