Freelance Graphic Design PortfolioRepetition is one small part of being consistent.

Usually, we associate “repetition” with very negative connotations. We often associate “repetition” as being boring. We think of repetition as doing the same thing over and over again. Do we really want that?

Short answer: yes. Repetition is all about promoting harmony between all the different components in your piece. It sets the rhythm to your design. It also unifies your layout and if used throughout your materials, it provides unity and reinforces your brand.

Defining repetition:

Repetition is the recurrence of a particular graphic element in your layout

What’s worth repeating? Here’s a list of things that can be repeated in your designs:

  1. Position of something (ex: in web design the navigation is always in the same position.
  2. Size of the component
  3. Rules/lines
  4. Color
  5. Fonts
  6. Backgrounds
  7. Boxes
  8. Formats
  9. Bullets and decorative elements
  10. Borders
